I enjoy black and white photography a lot. when I take B&W photos, I tend to use a Leica M Monochrom body or a film body with black and white film. I could convert digital color photos into black and white photos but often times, I find black and white dedicated body produces more interesting results.

In the case of black and white photos, I don’t mind using a Voigtlander lens. Typically Leica lens produces better results in color photos, but with black and white, I don’t have to think about chromatic aberration effect at all. So in this regard, Voigtlander is a good choice as it’s lighter than Leica lens. (Besides Ultron series is better than Nokton (without ASPH) when it comes to optical performance.)

In black and white photos, I try to find a contrast between light and shadow. With the help of Leica M Monochrom body, I don’t lose neither highlight nor dark area.

I like ILFORD DELTA or HP5 film for black and white film photos. It has fine grain with higher contrast than other B&W films.

A B+W yellow filter makes black and white photos smoother. So frequently, B+W yellow filter is my companion for black and white photography.

ia musing a voigtlander ultron 1l9 28 mm lens in my Leica m10 monchrom. When I set up the camera I tried to find my lens in the menu listing but the menu does not show any f1.9 28 mm. When I take pictures the camera read out tells me I am shooting with a 21 mm lens. YIKES ! I fear that my exposures and f stops may be off as the camera is not recognizing my lens. any advice?
I had the same experience with a Voigtlander lens. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any easy way. When this happens, I give up on A mode and simply use manual mode. Set ISO and shutter speed manually to get the exposure I want.
