When I first got to know Leica M system, I did not know how much it is. I simply liked it because it was beautiful. Then I asked people (who’s in photography industry) about their thoughts on the Leica system. Some people say it’s too pricy for its value. Some say it’s great and it can capture decisive moments.
I really wanted to purchase it years ago, but it was indeed very pricy while I wasn’t sure if I could use a rangefinder system. Since then, I’ve been on the look out for photos taken by Leica M. For some reason, photos I found through Flickr and other sources were out standing.
Fujifilm X-Pro2 + Leica M adapter
My alternative to Leica M system was a Fujifilm X-Pro2. It supports Leica M mount through Fujifilm accessory. I started out with a Voigtlander Nokton lens. With Fujifilm EVF focus peaking feature, I was able to use manual lens fast enough to capture my son’s fast movement. My confidence grew bigger, so I decided to give it a try.
At first I wasn’t sure if I could really master rangefinder system, so I bought external EVF separately. It was sort of my insurance. But I soon realized that EVF consumes battery substantially which defeats a purpose of long lasting RF body in a single charge.
So I tried to use it without an external EVF.
Fortunately, it was easy after a few weeks. In fact, it was much easier than I thought. Since I capture any moment exactly the same as I see, it feel much better than SLR system with EVF support I used to use.
Leica M10 : my dream came true.
Yeah! Finally, I could capture any moment any time! My dream became true. It’s been 10 months since I started using Leica M system. Since then I captured awesome moments more than ever. It seems like thanks to this rangefinder, my performance seems to be better as well. In my belief, I had to think a lot to take one shot with Leica M system while other SLR with EVF support, AF system did everything for me automatically, so I didn’t have to think a lot, just point and shoot.
Now I am able to point and shoot with Leica M as I got so used to this. This makes me shoot even faster than AF system which seems vey odd but when you experience it, you would agree.
After I started using Leica M, I can feel the texture of the subject and feel the air surrounds the object. It produces transparent look and feel, so sometime I feel like the photo is in 3D, not 2D.
Leica M10 has a superb dynamic range. It can capture both dark side as well as bright side equally balancing. If not, you should be able to adjust it in post processing.
I feel like the above photo is like 3D.
With Leica M10, you can produce the color almost similar to what you see. I like vibrant color, Leica M makes me very happy in terms of color on top of clarify.
Leica M10 comes with two color choices. I picked the silver one. I believe it’s better because when you mount a silver lens, it looks more prettier than the one with a black color.
My beautiful Leica M10 camera fulfilled my dream.
I don’t know whether or not this is because of the Leica M10, but since I started using it, I got lots of photography related opportunities from business customers. So thank you Leica for enabling my dream!
